THE LOST EPISODE: Hot Wells Hotel

History

In the late 1800’s as the San Antonio State Hospital was being completed across the street – the builders realized they lacked one thing. Water. They decided to drill a well on the property whichwas a complete bust. The water that sprang forth smelled of Sulphur and was 104 degrees.

The discovery meant the water was not usable for the hospital’s needs. However, it was a developers dream. The state leased the water rights in 1893, and Hot Wells Hotel was born. Sadly, it burned to the ground after one year of operation.

The next incarnation of the property was its most famous, a beautiful Victorian resort that boasted of the waters abilities to heal almost anything! At that time, people believed that these waters had real curative powers. Celebrities and big businessmen came in droves. Charlie Chaplin, Tom Mix – there’s even a story of the head of the railroad installing a spur line in front of the property so he could work out of his rail car office, and soak in the hot baths for his health conditions. Yet again, fire took the building in 1925.

While many tried, it never reclaimed its place among the top destinations with hot mineral baths, plus with modern medicine…people no longer believed so heavily in the power of the water. It burned two more times, once in 1988, and again in 1997.

The ruins of the bath house are all that remain today.

Get ready as we journey back in time to revisit the spine tingling moments that left us speechless, proving once and for all…that ghosts are real.

The Legend

While no one died in the fire, Hot Wells Hotel has long been suspected of being haunted. There was a lot of questionable activity that took place on the site while it was abandoned, but even more so…there was a lot of love here. For many, this may have been there happy place.

One spirit in particular is pointed out by a psychic medium, a female who used to work at the famous bath house who peers out of one specific window that cannot be shut.

Additionally, footsteps, and voices abound – but until now, we’ve never known who they are.

Background on Lost Episode

The team investigated Hot Wells Hotel in 2012, and the episode was released Halloween week of that year. The morning after it was released, the video had vanished from all distribution points. When producers attempted to upload the video again – the footage was all a black glitchy static.

Since 2012 there have been many attempts to recover the footage, but all have failed. Until now. It has reappeared just as mysteriously as it vanished.
