Big Al’s Bar

History

Big Al’s “Down The Hatch” bar is located in the historic Marchman Building, which is marked with a historic plaque as being one of the oldest buildings in town. It was one of the first buildings ever erected on the Waxahachie town square, even besting the ornate courthouse that overlooks the entire town.  This building was originally built in 1887 and was a Dry Goods mercantile. Later in years it was a Nickel Store and more recently, a bar.

While there’s no known tragedies that occurred on the premises there’s no telling what happened on this piece of land throughout the years. Waxahachie is known for its old west history, and was also home to 5 different American Indian tribes. Cattle drives would have been a regular site here in the frontier days, running right over where the bar now sits.

Legend

Employees feel uneasy, have heard tapping on pipes coming in 3’s, glasses fall, and they even hear someone clearing their throat who isn’t there. The bar manager also reports she saw a cowboy and could even describe his physical traits down to his red hair. While everyone tried to ignore the activity at first, that rarely works…and eventually and reluctantly called for investigation.
